JON Fortune played more than an hour for Charlton’s reserves this week but manager Phil Parkinson insists he is in no rush to fasttrack him into the first team.

The defender was a commanding presence in the second string’s 2-0 win over their Crystal Palace counterparts, before being taken off as a precaution.

And Parkinson is still mulling over the best way to get the 30-year-old up to speed.

“Jon needs a run of games because he hasn’t really played first-team football in 18 months,” said Parkinson.

“I want to give him a bit more time. We’ve got another reserve game next week, and sending him out on a short loan remains an option.

“But at the moment, with Christian Dailly out injured, we’re a bit short of cover at centre-back, so we want to have him around in case we need to call on him.”
