PADDY McCarthy has admitted that the Palace players are smarting from their 3-0 defeat at Scunthorpe and will be looking to make amends at Reading tomorrow. The Eagles produced their worst performance of the season at Glanford Park and the international break has prevented them from bouncing back quickly from the setback. McCarthy was not in the mood for making excuses - despite his early exit from the game with a bug forcing a defensive reshuffle which saw midfielder Alex Marrow drop back to partner Claude Davis. "Alex can play there and the bottom line is it was 11 v 11 and we didn't perform," said McCarthy. "No-one was happy because we had shown in some of the matches prior to that what we were capable of doing. "We let ourselves down and you'll have to ask the gaffer the question of whether he will change the side on Saturday or stick with what he's got. "All the lads are really looking forward to Reading and putting things right. It hurt us as individuals and as a team. I know the gaffer felt let down."
