CHARLTON boss Phil Parkinson insists his side will mount a promotion push this season but has warned they need time to gel after being hurriedly thrown together during the summer.

The Addicks manager was frustrated on Saturday after seeing his side beaten 1-0 by an injury-time penalty at Exeter.

However, after taking time to reflect on the performance, he believes his target of achieving a place in the Championship remains a realistic one.

“At the moment we look like a team that’s gone through a lot of changes but I’m certain we will get better,” said Parkinson.

“I was really disappointed to come away beaten on Saturday but then I had to remind myself we’ve got a new front two, a new centre-back pairing, two new full-backs and changes elsewhere as well.

“It takes time and we have to accept that. The supporters can all see that the squad is taking shape nicely but now we must start to translate that into results on the pitch. I’m confident we will challenge.”
