Ann Summers for Lewisham Shopping Centre
Monday, 25 January 2010
THE arrival of a saucy underwear shop will cap the successful start to the year for a shopping centre.
A branch of the Ann Summers chain is set to open in Lewisham Shopping Centre at the end of the month.
It follows a 17 per cent increase in customer spending compared with the same month last year, and a 13 per cent increase in customer footfall.
Centre manager Paul Redden said as well as the arrival of Ann Summers, Shopmobility would be opening a branch in March and there were hopes music store HMV would reopen a shop this year.
He said: “All the businesses have been performing well recently.
“Only two units remain empty and 64 businesses are trading in the centre at the moment.
“A Mothercare store recently closed here but that’s due to the store relocating to another area of Lewisham near the train station.
“The new H&M store which opened in September is doing very well and the temporary HMV store that was open for seven weeks over Christmas also helped increase the footfall in the centre.
“We haven’t really been too badly affected by the recent snow either, because we’re a local shopping centre and only a small number of our customers get here by car.”
