South London star helps toddler
Thursday, 18 June 2009
A TODDLER who lost his legs after contracting meningitis is set to benefit from the fundraising efforts of a South London star.
Lucreta La Pierre won the South London Press very first Star of South London Heroes award in 2004, four years after our campaign was launched.
She has now decided to start raising money for Lewisham-born Harvey Parry after meeting his mum in the street last month.
The prosthetic limbs Harvey needs so he can learn to walk are only available from a private clinic in the US and are very expensive.
The three-year-old lost his legs when he was just 22 months old.
Lucreta, a full-time volunteer who lives in Catford, won the award for her Sickle Cell Society fundraising efforts.
She continues raising money for charity through her church, a theatre, family and friends.
- For a full interview with her, see the South London Press on Friday.

This is fantastic what Lucreta is doing and admire her fundraising.
But why arn’t the prosthetic legs being being given to this little boy by the NHS? We pay our taxes and our national insurance, our children should not have to go to USA and pay to be given a chance to walk. How many other children here are in the same boat and yet the NHS wastes money left right and centre.
